Who doesn’t need a little more love right now? The past year has been a challenge even for the toughest parent and educators, but our kids may be feeling the stress more than any of us. What better time to show our love and remind them how full their hearts can feel than on Valentine’s Day!
LCCC has put together a list of easy and fun Valentine’s Day activities for kids and families to enjoy – we hope these put a little love in your hearts!

Valentine's Day Story Time!

Reading together is all about love and quality time – pick out a kids Valentine’s Day or love themed story and curl up somewhere cozy!

LCCC Children gettin' CRAFTY this Valentine's Day!

The Toddler 2 Room used craft paper, glue, paint brushes and Dollerama pre-cut foam hearts to make a Valentine’s Day Collage.

The Preschool 1 Room created sensory bottles by upcycling water bottles, and having the children carefully inserting confetti or sequins, water, oil and glitter. This helps with fine motor skills.

They also created decorated Valentine’s Day cards which were inspired by chalkboards. The children traced the white chalk with permanent red marker for a 3D font look! They also filled the heart with pieces of construction paper!

The Preschool 2 also created Heart Shaped Valentine’s Day Cards. The children decorated with cut out letters and cut out hearts!

Valentine‘s Day Cognitive Activities

Our Toddler 1 Room played a fun Valentine‘s Day Shape Recognition activity. The children have to match the toy chocolates shapes to the ones on the tray. How adorable and who doesn’t love chocolate?

Playdough Valentines Activity

Quick and easy Valentines playdough! Kids love hands-on play and best of all it is great fun for toddlers to preschoolers and beyond. Set out a tray with lots of different materials such as stampers, rolling pins, cookie cutters, glitter, pom poms, cutout hearts, etc. for creating and exploring with this Valentines play dough. This recipe is easy to make, and very similar to store bought Play Doh.

Playdough Recipe

  • 1 cup Flour

  • 1/4 cup Salt

  • 2 tsp Cream of Tartar

  • 1 cup Water

  • 1 1/2 or 2 TBSP Vegetable Oil ~ I have used both measurements successfully and love how soft it makes the dough feel.

  • Food Coloring ~ adding it to the wet ingredients helps to help get even color

  • Glitter ~ we used a larger glitter flakes

Scavenger Hunt with Hearts

Create a scavenger hunt with hearts! Hide cut out coloured hearts around the house and let the kids collect them in fun baskets or boxes. Give prizes or treats when they collect them all.
