Fall-ing Back Into Routine

It’s Been a While…

It’s been a while since our last blog post! Between an incredibly full and rewarding summer and the adjustment that comes with settling back into a new school year, you could say we’ve got a lot to catch up on. But a quick glimpse into another summer well-lived at Lakeshore seems like the perfect place to start.

SUMMER RECAP

We’re very fortunate at LCCC to be able to offer a rich and diverse summer program for all age groups at the centre. From special in-class activities to visiting performers and adventurous day trips for our older classrooms, summer at LCCC is never a dull moment. Even as staff, it’s such a joy to see the excitement on the children’s faces as these special events unfold.

NEW PLAYSCAPE

We’re thrilled to share that the new playscape on the school side is officially complete and fully operational! Over the past few months, our Kindergarten and School Age children and educators seamlessly adapted to an outdoor routine that didn’t include the playground structure or basketball court. Now, with the refreshed area ready for play, everyone is excited to enjoy new features including a music garden, new basketball nets, and cozy rest areas to sit and relax.

A COMMUNITY GARDEN TO HONOUR

Over the past few years, members of our community with green thumbs and big hearts have devoted their time to the small garden just beyond the preschool playground fence on 6th Street. Now grown, green, and gorgeous, we’ve added the final touch to this beautiful space — a mural that reflects our warm and welcoming community, featuring one of our own who we sadly lost five years ago.

Christie Leja, a long-time member of the Lakeshore community, didn’t just treat LCCC as her second

home — she treated it as an extension of herself. Once a child in care at LCCC, Christie later joined the team and became a beloved focal point of the centre. With her genuine heart, warm smile, and endlessly creative spirit, Christie brought light into the hallways and calmness into the classrooms. Now lovingly remembered alongside our community garden, Christie will always have a place at LCCC and in our hearts.

TO FALL AND BEYOND

We’re so grateful for everyone who helped make the past few months so special — our educators who design engaging programs for the children, our kitchen staff who prepare wholesome meals (and even ones to-go on trip days), our sanitation team who ensure every corner is cared for, and our office staff who somehow make everything run seamlessly. Summer may be busy, but we sure do love it.

Now, as we settle into the 2025–2026 school year, we can’t wait to see what’s next!
