Mothers and Grown Ups Who Love Us

Our centre is a melting pot of community, safety and love. And we feel so lucky to be able to witness this everyday during drop offs, pickups and sweet interactions between children and the grownups that care for them. The time spent in between these moments, when the children are in our care and their grownups are out of the classroom, is filled with children’s stories and cute anecdotes about their families, their caregivers and their moms. A love so deep that it sticks with children wherever they go, and comes out in their smiles, laughter and artwork.

This year for Mothers and Grown Ups Who Love Us Day, each classroom found their own unique way to bring these feelings out of the children and into something a bit more tangible - handmade gifts full of self expression, individuality and love.

Not only did the children put their own unique twist on the items they crafted for their special grown up, they also took that grownup’s taste, interest and hobbies into consideration as they created their gift.

Some children made note that their mom and special grownups enjoy flowers, plants and gardening. With that, the classroom teachers helped the children bring their vision to life through works of potted plants and fresh flowers.

Other children expressed that their special grown-up enjoys aesthetics, makeup and getting ready, and the classroom teachers assisted the children in designing their own vanity cases, hair accessories and jewelry holders. The children also created beautiful reusable tote bags featuring custom illustrations of themselves on the front, along with their own artwork and drawings on the back, as a special keepsake gift for their loved ones

As much as everyone enjoys and appreciates presents, there's nothing quite like the gift of quality time, whether that’s with family, friends or community members. Because of that, our centre hosted an event where all avenues of love and connection could be represented.

On a sunny Friday in May, just a few days before most of the children would be presenting their homemade gifts and creations to their special grown up, they also had the opportunity to celebrate them with good food, good friends and good times.

All were invited, moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, babas, papas and more, to share the love and some excitement leading up to their special day. School Age children took the initiative to lead and set up many of the components, and staff members guided grownups to snacks and photo ops with their littles.

Smiles, laughter, snacks and love. It doesn't get much better than that in an expression of appreciation for grown ups who do it all and the sweet children who are truly and utterly obsessed with them.
