Welcoming Fall at LCCC

And just like that, another school year is well underway! With summer behind us and our classrooms settling into new routines, we’re so excited to welcome both new and familiar faces back to LCCC. As we look ahead to another year of learning, growing and creating together, there’s no better way to kick things off than with a little fall fun!

FALL ACTIVITIES

With the changing colours and cooler temperatures comes a whole new season of creative inspiration! Our classrooms welcomed fall with a variety of hands-on activities, from painting paper leaves and exploring natural materials like sticks and fallen leaves, to creating beautiful leaf impressions using salt dough. Our older School Age children even got crafty with handmade paper pumpkin lanterns, carefully stringing their creations together to make festive decorations. A little creativity, a lot of colour and plenty of autumn fun!

NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the children who attended residential schools, those who never returned home, and the families and communities who continue to feel their lasting impacts. As educators, we recognize the importance of introducing children to this part of Canadian history in thoughtful, age-appropriate ways. Through conversations about kindness, fairness, respect and belonging, we can begin building an understanding of why every child matters.

This year, our classrooms acknowledged the day through a variety of meaningful activities. Children created orange handprints on a large collaborative display featuring the words “Every Child Matters,” decorated their own paper orange shirts and listened to stories shared by their educators. Some classrooms even took their learning beyond the centre, proudly wearing orange shirts as they walked through our neighbourhood. Each activity offered an opportunity to learn, reflect and recognize the importance of treating every child with dignity, kindness and respect.

With many important moments already had and plenty more to come this school year, we’re so excited for a season of learning, growing and collaborating here at LCCC.
