A Sensational School Year Send Off

Two full months of summer at LCCC are two full months of activity packed, adventure loaded, hands on months that bring lots of fun and joy to both our children, and our educators. But before any of that even begins, there's the busy month of June, where we welcome celebrations, festivities and PRIDE!

PRIDE MONTH

As soon as June begins Pride Month is top of mind, with our educators finding engaging and developmentally stimulating activities to bring LGBTQ+ representation into their classrooms. Through storytelling, creative arts and conversation, there is a way to hold space for Pride in every age group and classroom.

And frankly, it's never too early to implement diversity and inclusion into a curriculum so children and families alike can feel seen, welcomed and properly represented. This year, we saw classrooms celebrate love of all forms and the power of personal identity, to which everyone deserves and should have a right to express.

DADDY'S & GROWN UPS WHO LOVE US

By mid-month, another kind of love started to emerge in the classrooms - the love for Daddy's and Grown Ups Who Love us - and the children were certainly excited to express their love through intentional gift making.

We saw gifts with functionality, gifts with flair, gifts that are full of fun, but what they all have in common is the hand crafted dedication that each child put towards their item in special honor of the adult they love most.

SOCCER & SNACKS

Another exciting element we added into our celebrations this month was our child-parent soccer match. What started as an idea rooted in parental involvement, community and sport, turned into a center-wide social that prompted child led initiatives, team building and some light hearted competition between kids and their respective grown up.

Planned by educators, led by School Age children (with assistance of their educators), there was food & refreshments, a live DJ and some entertainment. Though the individual inside the costume shall remain nameless, we can unanimously agree that they are a focal point of LCCC and a well loved member of the lakeshore community. While School Age children and their grown-ups showed up on the soccer field, demonstrating moves and maneuvers seldom seen outside of FIFA, other children, parents and members of LCCC looked on, cheered and enjoyed themselves among one another.

June is always a very busy, yet very abundant month, for our center. And just as it ends, another bustling season begins - summer at LCCC. So stay tuned for the fun, there's going to be a lot more where this came from.
