Hello, happy new year and welcome back to the swing of things after a much needed Christmas break! Here at LCCC, we can speak for all classrooms when we say that this holiday season was well celebrated and much loved. From fully integrative classroom activities sharing how other cultures celebrate during this time of the year, to homemade gifts made with care by each child to give to a loved one and even a deluxe luncheon spread for staff to indulge and enjoy:
Not a detail was missed, nor an activity spared,
For the holiday magic, Is better when shared .
So let’s take a look at how LCCC shared the holiday fun among teachers, children and families .

Our classrooms were excited to represent both Christmas and Hanukkah this holiday season. With Hanukkah taking place from December 14th to 22nd and Christmas happening just afterwards on December 25th, it was a festive few weeks throughout our centre.

We saw classrooms make menorahs, dreidels, stars of David to honour the celebration of Hanukkah. As well as Christmas tree decorating and salt dough ornament making go represent Christmas.

The build-up to Christmas in the eyes of a child is one of the most joyful and jolly parts of such a magical season. But as much as they anticipate Santa, elves and Christmas morning, the excitement they show towards sharing these moments with people they love, is a special kind of magic that feels the most genuine of all.

This year we saw the children in our classrooms prepare exceptional gifts for the people they love most. For several weeks leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah, each child carefully painted, stamped, glued and wrapped their homemade gifts for their families. Each one beautiful, each one unique, each one telling a story of the child who made it, and the special people who would be receiving it.

The creative lens our classroom teachers took this Christmas was through the approach of functional, yet sentimental. Two of the classrooms, P1 and SA2, made personalized calanders for the children families to use all year round. From illustrating each month with their own unique touch, to helping bind the pages together, the children tested their hand at publishing and the outcome was quite impressive.

It takes a lot of people to ensure that our centre is fully operational, all year long. People such as our classroom ECEs, ECAs, cooks and cleaners, and of course our diligent office staff who look out for everyone and everything (and more). Even our parents showed their appreciation by donating to make all of the celebrations possible. We thanked them all with a smorgasbord of food from local restaurant Chainsmoker. A table full of meat (it was halal!), salads, appetizers and desserts. Games were played, presents were exchanged, and the hallway was abuzz with happy staff and full bellies.
With each new year is a new opportunity to reflect on what we’ve learned, look forward to what’s to come and understand that some things might just be out of our control. But for now, we’re just happy to be surrounded by big smiles, happy kids and a chance to make memories every single day.
