We’re officially back in the swing of things here at LCCC! And if we ever needed a reminder, the flurry of joyful fall festivities (keeping us equally delighted and busy) certainly confirms that a bustling school year is well underway.
Most recently, our centre had the joy of celebrating Diwali one week and Halloween the next. Once again, our classrooms amazed us with the thoughtful way they blended cultural learning, creativity, and critical thinking into their activity planning. From meaningful traditions to playful seasonal fun, the children explored, created, and celebrated together — and we loved every moment.
DIWALI FIREWORKS

During Diwali, fireworks hold a special place in the celebration. They symbolize the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. The bright bursts of colour lighting up the sky represent joy, new beginnings, and the illumination of hope and positivity in our lives. To reflect this beautiful tradition, the children created their own “fireworks” using paint and glitter, exploring colour, movement, and sparkle as they brought this symbolic Diwali moment to life in their classrooms.
DIYAS

Another beautiful Diwali tradition is the use of small boats or “diyas” set afloat with a flame inside, symbolizing guidance, purity, and the welcoming of light into our homes and hearts. These glowing vessels are meant to bring blessings and remind us that even the smallest light can lead the way through darkness. Inspired by this custom, the children created their own illuminated boats using paper plates, paint, and pretend candles, thoughtfully designing each one with colour and care. Their creations shone brightly, capturing both the creativity of the season and the meaningful traditions behind it.
HENNA

To continue exploring the rich traditions of Diwali, our classrooms also learned about the art of henna, or mehndi. Through example photos and picture books, children discovered how henna is used to create beautiful, intricate designs on hands during celebrations and special occasions. After observing the patterns, shapes, and flowing lines often found in traditional henna art, the children designed their own versions on printed paper hands. With thoughtful strokes, swirls, and plenty of imagination, they practiced this meaningful cultural art form in a way that honoured tradition while celebrating their own creativity.
HALLOWEEN PARADE

Halloween brought even more excitement as our daycare classrooms joined the annual costume parade through the school. Little tv characters, animals, pretend first responders, and sparkly princess' proudly made their way down the hallways, waving and showing off their creative costumes to cheering staff and students. The smiles, giggles, and twirls were the perfect mix of festive fun and community connection — a moment everyone looks forward to each year.
STAFF COSTUMES

Of course, the children weren’t the only ones in the spirit! Our educators and staff joined in on the fun too! With creative costumes, playful themes, and big enthusiasm, our team brought the Halloween magic to life. We even held our annual staff costume contest, complete with superlatives that celebrated charm, creativity, and a little friendly competition!
With fall in full swing and our classrooms buzzing with big imaginations and even bigger smiles, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings. Here’s to more cozy moments, creative adventures, and celebrations still to come at LCCC! 🍂
