Waving Our Rainbow Flags

Last month, our classrooms once again came together to explore the importance of Pride Month—and the essential reminder that recognizing and honouring LGBTQIA identities must continue throughout the entire year. At Lakeshore, Pride isn’t just a celebration; it’s a meaningful opportunity to centre conversations about rights, visibility, and inclusion.

Our educators thoughtfully guided age-appropriate discussions that emphasized core values like equality, respect, fairness, and kindness. Through creative, developmentally suitable lessons, they empowered children to embrace diversity and stand up for one another in meaningful ways. Whether it was starting with the basics, like creating Rainbow Flags to help our younger children understand the importance of inclusivity and kindness for everyone, or diving into more reflective activities with our older age groups, such as storytelling and thoughtful Q&A sessions to deepen their understanding of what it means to be an ally, each classroom engaged in meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning.

Our educators also hosted a Pride Party, where children of various age groups gathered in the gym, waving their flags and dancing to LGBTQIA+ artists and their allies. Showing up with happiness, joy, excitement and PRIDE for the community is a tangible way for children of all ages to see just how important it is to lead with acceptance, and share the kindness.

Watching these values come to life in our classrooms and throughout our center is a powerful reflection of who we are as a community. We are proud to continue building an environment where every child and every family feels seen, valued, and supported.
